New York, NY – Arts for Arts (AFA) annual celebration of the link between artist and community in New York Cityʼs gardens, will take place this month. Eight community gardens throughout the Lower East Side in Manhattan and across Brooklyn, will host an afternoon of music, spoken word and dance performances on Sunday, September 13 and 20, 2009. A diverse cross section of musicians— from jazz and vocals by the Diana Wayburn Quartet and Josh Rosemanʼs Trio to tabla from G.L., - dance by Mariko Kumanimido and poetry from Yuko Otomo, and many others.

In our continuing effort to embed the innovative arts in our local communities, Arts for Art, Inc. and itʼs subsidiary grassroots collective, Rise Up Creative Music and Arts (RUCMA) has organized a series of avantjazz performances.. With this series, artists are taking the initiative, volunteering to bring their art directly into our communities. In addition to the art, AFA will provide literature on issues of affordable housing and healthcare, as it affects all of us.
